Last night 37 million people watched Governor Palin's address at the 2008 Republican National. Many more watched LIVE online and people continue to enjoy her speech on YouTube and the Elections Page at Google News.

Raising the Roof

On the third night of the convention, Governor Sarah Palin rocked the convention hall as she officially accepted the Party's nomination for Vice-President. Following a rousing keynote address from former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Governor Palin proved to the world that she was the perfect pick for John McCain and that, together, they will reform Washington.

New Web Site LIVE

Early this morning we officially launched the new Web site for the week of the convention. The site includes several cutting-edge features that give journalists and other visitors to www.GOPConvention2008.com unprecedented access to convention news and information.

"The convention’s Web site will enable Americans to log on, experience the convention as it happens, and learn about John McCain’s unparalleled record of service and sacrifice. The site will offer unprecedented access to convention proceedings and will help demonstrate why John McCain is best qualified to lead our country," said Maria Cino, President and CEO of the 2008 Republican National Convention.

The new Web site includes a media portal, where daily and hourly schedules, press releases, media advisories, speech text, speaker bios, pictures, video, and RSS feeds will be posted. To access the portal, visit the convention Web site, www.GOPConvention2008.com, and click "media portal," or go directly to http://portal.gopconvention2008.com.

The convention Web site will also feature six live streaming video channels that will provide exclusive footage captured from within the Xcel Energy Center, including the backstage area and Radio Row. In addition, the site features state pages where people can connect with other Republicans from their state, links to social networking sites, and - of course - the Grand Ol’ Blog, the official convention blog.

Today’s launch of the new Web site is part of this week’s on-going efforts to welcome John McCain and more than 45,000 convention attendees to Saint Paul.

Following a review of our old Web site by a "staunch Democrat" who claimed the GOP Convention Web site may cause him to "change [his] party affiliation," this new site should make the switch a no brainer.

Yesterday we unveiled the official convention podium and released a final behind-the-scenes, time lapse video of the transformation of the Xcel Energy Center in preparation for the Republican Party's nomination of Senator John McCain. This final video features the complete transformation of the Xcel Energy Center and is a compilation of all time lapse segments previously released.

Today’s unveiling of the official convention podium is the culmination of over 18 months of planning and an impressive transformation that began in late July. More than 500 workers diligently transformed what was once an ice hockey rink into what will be the setting for the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Face-to-Face Matchup

Thousands of people are packing their bags in preparation for their trips to Minnesota. Many of those attending the convention in person, along with those who will attend online, have already become fans of the 2008 Republican National Convention Facebook Page.

The page is constantly updated with convention news, behind-the-scenes pictures and videos, links to convention information and more. Users can sign-in to Facebook to view profiles of other convention watchers and talk about the convention by posting a comment on the wall.

We’re pleased to report that in an MSNBC match-up that compared the 2008 Republican National Convention Facebook Page with the one developed for the Democratic National Convention, ours came out on top! Click on the video below to watch.

Taking Shape

The 2008 Republican National Convention schedule is taking shape. Yesterday we announced the names of additional speakers for the program of events that will run Sept. 1-4.

More than 90 speakers will set the stage for Senator John McCain as he accepts the Republican Party’s nomination for President next Thursday evening. The speakers will emphasize the convention’s overall theme, "Country First," which reflects John McCain’s remarkable record of leadership and service to America. Their remarks will also echo the themes that have been selected for each of the convention’s four days, which are outlined below:

A Family Affair

As you know, people from across the country have descended upon Saint Paul to make this convention happen. Many of the convention staffers featured on the Grand Ol’ Blog are not from Minnesota. However, for one staffer and her entire family, the 2008 Republican National Convention is both a local and family affair.

For the past few months, Rebekah Breitbarth has served as a Press Assistant in the Communications Division. This week she will be joined by her father Neal, who is 1st District delegate; her mother Juleen, who will volunteer with media operations; and her uncle Steven, who will work as a police chaplain.

"I'm just completely thrilled to be here working at the convention," Rebekah said in an interview with the Fairmont Sentinel. "... It's really like a dream job to be working on a national-scale event, and it's so wonderful having my parents involved in the convention as well."

Rolling out the Red Carpet

In about one week, more than 45,000 visitors attending the 2008 Republican National Convention will arrive in Minneapolis-Saint Paul.

This morning, workers began installing over 600 welcome banners which will be "hung on street poles in Minneapolis and St. Paul and at the airport," according to the MinnPost.

Although we have grown accustomed to meeting online every Friday at noon for lunch, tomorrow we will have to take a raincheck.

Due to the limited time left to ensure that everything is in place for the big show to begin on September 1st, we are not only skipping the lunchtime chats this week and next Friday, but we will be fasting until the start of the convention.

The transformation of the Xcel Energy Center is on schedule and coming along very well. Watch the latest time-lapse video below to see all of the progress that has been made in just one week: delegate seats are now outlined on the convention floor, the speaker and lighting systems are in place and the podium area has been assembled.

Today we released the dimensions and a digital rendering of the podium area from which Senator John McCain will deliver his acceptance speech. Service, Reform, Prosperity and Peace

The much-anticipated speakers and themes for the 2008 Republican National Convention were released this morning.

The convention’s overall theme, "Country First," reflects John McCain’s remarkable record of leadership and service to America. Each day of proceedings will center on a touchstone theme that has defined John McCain’s life and will be central to his vision for leading our nation forward as president.

The roster of speakers announced today includes John McCain, Mrs. Cindy McCain, 10 current and former Republican governors, five current and former U.S. Senators and two well-respected businesswomen. Their remarks will echo the themes that have been selected for each of the convention’s four days: service, reform, prosperity and peace.

Juggler in Chief

This morning, the front page of Minnesota’s Star Tribune features a profile of Convention President and CEO Maria Cino. Dubbing her the "RNC's juggler in chief," the feature article provides a quick snapshot of what constitutes a typical day for the convention’s busy and energetic leader.

Cino (or "boss," as she is known in the office) is counting down the final days until September 1, when the convention officially begins and launches four days of events that will culminate in the Republican Party’s nomination of Senator John McCain. Cino can often be heard asking staff, "How many days?!"

Mara Cino’s distinguished career in politics spans 26 years. "There's no position she hasn't had in government," says her friend and the godmother of her two children Mary Matalin. Of her role overseeing the 2008 Republican National Convention, Cino says, "This is the best job I’ve ever had."

The Media Are Coming

The 2008 Republican National Convention is the second largest media event in the world; second only to the Olympics. More than 15,000 members of the media will be on-site covering all aspects of the convention.

As the transformation inside the Xcel Energy Center progresses, media outlets from across the country and around the world have already arrived in Saint Paul to build-out their work spaces. Inside the Xcel Energy Center, illuminated signs hang in front of individual media suites boldly declaring their outlet’s presence in the convention hall.

In the adjacent RiverCenter and Roy Wilkins Auditorium media spaces are being wired for access to Internet, phone, cable and satellite feeds so that reporters can file their stories.

Outside, in a parking lot across the street from the Xcel Energy Center, FOX News erected a large tent, which will complement their suite inside the convention hall. The tent will serve as both a hospitality suite and broadcast news center for FOX's convention coverage.

An event with this much media coverage would typically require many outlets to work out of similar tent structures. However, because of the large capacity and close proximity (they are all connected) of the Xcel Energy Center, RiverCenter and Roy Wilkins auditorium, a majority of the media outlets will be indoors and close to the action occurring inside the convention hall.

Another convention staffer was highlighted in their local paper this weekend. The Tuscolusa News noticed the work of Billy Godoy who is working on his second convention as the Associate Director of External Affairs for the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Although Godoy, whose full name is Guillermo Jose Godoy, has worked in U.S. politics for years, he did not become a U.S. citizen until recently.

1,000 hours and still going

Over the past 11 months, convention staff has participated in volunteer activities in and around the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area as part of the 2008 Republican National Convention’s American Neighbor program. Today, the program celebrated an important milestone when staff put the finishing touches on a new home in Woodbury, Minn., marking the initiative’s 1,000th hour of community service.

Since April, the convention staff, in cooperation with Homes for Our Troops and other partners, has worked tirelessly to build a home for Sergeant Marcus Kuboy, a wounded Iraq War veteran. Today, staff completed landscaping and other projects aimed at getting the home ready for Sergeant Kuboy’s September 1st move in.

The 1,000-hour milestone is the culmination of 11 months of activities, during which convention staff has participated in a variety of community service projects in and around Minneapolis-Saint Paul.

36 Hours in Minneapolis-St. Paul

Less than 390 hours (but who’s counting) until the start of the 2008 Republican National Convention, and even fewer hours before guests begin to arrive in Minnesota.

Today, in the New York Times, David Carr wrote about the 36 hours he spent in Minneapolis-St. Paul as he tried to cram all of the area’s offerings into a one -and -a -half day trip.

"Minnesotans take pride in their humility, but make an exception when it comes to showing folks around," Carr quipped. "And they’re going to be very busy, with the Republican hordes showing up from Sept. 1 to 4 to crown John McCain at the Xcel Energy Center."

And the Winner Is...

More than 280,000 people from across the country visited our YouTube Channel and watched RNC Chairman Duncan's video question: "Why are you a Republican in 2008?" The response was overwhelming, and the video answers we received detailed the wide range of reasons that Americans are Republican in 2008. From all of the submissions, only five finalists were chosen, and this week, America voted on the winner.

Thank you to everyone who watched, submitted and voted. It is your activism and support that will help send Senator John McCain to the White House in November.

The winning video is the work of Shawn Summers of Upper St. Claire, PA. Shawn will join the thousands of other attendees at the 2008 Republican National Convention in Saint Paul, Minn.

He will also spend one day on the campaign trail with Senator John McCain. Shawn has "full faith that Republican ideals work for America" and at the young age of 18, he is eager to cast his first vote for president for Sen. John McCain this November.

The Center of the Action

In just 20 days, the 2008 Republican National Convention will commence in the Xcel Energy Center. Years of planning will come to life inside the convention hall as the gavel drops on September 1st.

The Xcel Energy Center is a state-of-the-art facility, and visitors to the GOP Convention are sure to be very impressed.

Votes are pouring in this week for the "Why Are You a Republican in 2008?" YouTube contest. The five finalists are battling for the chance to win a trip to the 2008 Republican National Convention and the opportunity to spend one day on the campaign trail with Senator John McCain.

The contest attracted a wide array of participants. The Palm Beach Post noticed one of our finalists, Richie Mullaney of Jacksonville, FL "wants to put an end to ‘out of control spending’ in Congress."

Even U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss (GA) joined in on the action. While not an official contestant (he already has a ticket to the convention), Senator Chambliss spoke directly about why he is proud to be an American and a Republican.

All roads lead to Saint Paul

As you know, convention staff have come from all across the country to put together the most successful Republican National Convention to propel Senator John McCain to the White House in November.

Hailing from Philadelphia, PA, James Fitzpatrick wakes up bright and early each day to make sure everything in the convention offices are running smoothly. Serving as an administrative staff assistant, Fitzpatrick is responsible, in part, for the inventory and facilities management needs of the convention and also helps to coordinate personnel.

In an interview with the Chestnut Hill Local, James expressed his interest for politics and made clear his single objective for the rest of the year: "To do everything I can to help Sen. McCain and elect him the next president of the United States."

Likewise, Jason Mock from Carrollton, GA, is using his past experiences as College Republicans Chairman at the University of West Georgia and North Georgia political director for the Georgia Association of College Republicans to lead the convention Page Program. During the convention he will organize the 129 volunteer Pages, ages 16 to 25, as they serve as floor runners, assist with caucus meetings and distribute materials during sessions, as well as wave signs and energize the crowd.

In an article published over the weekend in the The Times-Georgian, Mock said of the program, "these are the future leaders of our country or the leaders in the community. We want to show them and introduce to them how to lead. We have a great schedule. It’s something these young adults will hopefully get a lot out of," he said. "Then they can hit the ground running for their party come November."

First-of-its-kind Recycling Program for GOP Convention

As part of our ongoing efforts to be eco-conscious in the planning and execution of the 2008 Republican National Convention, the convention will institute a "closed-loop" recycling program in which the recyclable material recovered at the Xcel Energy Center and St. Paul RiverCentre during the convention will be recycled in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Area.

Yesterday, the Minneapolis Saint Paul 2008 Host Committee and the 2008 Republican National Convention joined representatives from Waste Management, Inc. and Coca-Cola Recycling LLC at the Xcel Energy Center to announce the program and officially name Waste Management and Coca-Cola Recycling as the convention’s Official Recycling Providers.

"Waste Management will collect all waste and recyclable material during the convention and take it to its facility in Minneapolis where all of the recyclable material will be sorted and baled. The polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles and aluminum cans will then be shipped back to the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Eagan, Minn., and ultimately processed by Coca-Cola into new bottles and cans," according to a release from the Host Committee.

Nearly 300 "single stream" recycling containers will be used during the convention meaning any recyclable material - aluminum, paper, plastic, or glass - can be deposited in the container.

In addition to this first-of-its kind recycling program, other efforts to remain eco-conscious include utilizing hybrid vehicles; providing information and applications online versus in print for volunteers, delegates and media; printing materials on recycled paper or other alternative types of material including producing the 45,000 GOParty Cards for delegates and media on a bio-plastic material derived entirely from plants; conducting volunteer training virtually; and creating an office environment for convention planners that is equipped with recycled furniture, carpet and office supplies. In addition, 80 percent of employees live within walking distance to the offices.

Week Two in Review

Today we released a second behind-the-scenes, time lapse video of the ongoing transformation of the Xcel Energy Center into the podium for the Republican Party's nomination of Sen. John McCain.

In the two weeks since work began at the venue, workers have modified more than 30 suites into media studios, installed nearly 25 miles of cable and began rigging the trusses that will hold lighting, speakers and other production equipment. We invite you to view our progress by clicking here.

At the Car Wash

Well it wasn’t your typical car wash, but the parking lot at the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis was full of volunteers and convention staffers scrubbing cabs from the Minneapolis Saint Paul area as part of an effort to spruce up the cities in preparation for the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Our very own Maria Cino, President and CEO of the 2008 Republican National Convention, rolled up her sleeves and helped out along with Mike Vallante, Chief of Staff of Minneapolis Saint Paul Host Committee, and several mayors from the surrounding cities.

After six hours of soap, suds and rinsing, 221 cabs are back on the streets with a new shine ready to greet convention guests in less than four weeks.

A Look at the Past and a Look to the Future

If you follow the Grand Ol’ Blog you know that 1892 was last time a Republican National Convention was held in MN. You also know from Mr. Nadasty that there is extensive political history in MN.

Yesterday, the Associated Press ran a story recapping Minnesota’s deep political history. Later that evening, local CBS affiliate WCCO previewed technology in use behind the scenes at the 2008 Republican National Convention.

A long ways from home

In less than 31 days, the 2008 Republican National Convention will commence. However, staff of the convention has been planning every detail for more than a year.

Hailing all the way from Baton Rouge Louisiana, Jan McBride Sumrall and Nancy Peele, are two of many convention employees putting in long hours to make sure everything is perfect for the four-day convention and the evening Senator McCain will accept the Republican Party’s nomination for President.

Both Sumrall, who serves as the director of financial services and administration, and Peele, who focuses on hospitality in the operations division, are convention veterans working several conventions prior to this year’s in Saint Paul, MN.

Local Floral Arrangements for the Big Party

When the Grand Old Party comes to Minnesota in September for the 2008 Republican National Convention they will probably see the work of local florist and former "Sound of Music" child-actor Debbie Turner Larson.

After an excellent showing at a convention floral vendor day in April, Larson - who played Marta in the original "The Sound of Music" - was selected as one of four preferred florists.

"It's huge. It's very, very huge," she said in an interview to the Star Tribune published today. "It's something that I wish my parents were here to see. My dad was a dyed-in-the-wool conservative, and they would have just been tickled pink."

Convention Memorabilia on Display

In 38 days Senator John McCain will make history as he accepts the Republican Party nomination in St. Paul, MN on September 4th.

Today is the third day of the Xcel Energy Center transformation. Only 40 days left before the start of the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Neil Diamond and Free Falling

If you follow our Twitter updates you know that Sunday night several members from the 2008 Republican National Convention staff went to see Neil Diamond in concert.

After skating on the ice one last time, Sunday’s Neil Diamond performance was the final event in the Xcel Energy Center before the convention transformation began on Monday.

On Saturday, 30 miles east of Saint Paul in Baldwin, WI, ten other staffers saw the area from an unusual perspective - the sky - as they jumped out of a perfectly good airplane and free fell to the ground.

This daring group of staffers decided to get away from the office and skydive- almost all of them for the first time- and, thankfully, they all had parachutes and made it back to Saint Paul in one piece.

After a very eventful weekend, everyone is back in the office diligently working with just 41 days until the start of the 2008 Republican National Convention, and 44 days until Senator McCain officially accepts our party’s nomination.

Convention Staff Write Home

Over the past few days a couple convention staffers made headlines in their local news outlets.

On Friday, Betsy Ankney of Ottawa Hill, OH was profiled in the Toledo Free Press for her work as Staff Assistant to the President & CEO of the 2008 Republican National Convention, Maria Cino. Betsy has lived in Saint Paul, MN since January working side-by-side with Cino to ensure a smooth operation at the convention headquarters.

Today in Rochester, MN on the cover of the Post-Bulletin paper, Robert Todd was highlighted for his work as one of three Media Operations Coordinators. Robert will help manage the more than 15,000 members of the media during the four-day-long convention and ensure that "the likely Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain, [is] in the best possible light."

The Transformation Begins

The quiet, vacated Xcel Energy Center was filled this morning with the sounds of beeping forklifts, loud trucks, and snapping camera shutters as the 2008 Republican Nation Convention officially took shape.

After a quick safety talk to the workers, a large ceremonial key was presented to MSP 2008 Host Committee CEO Jeff Larson and Committee on Arrangements Deputy Director of Operations Gordon Pennoyer and the work began.

Over the next six weeks crews will labor tirelessly to transform the Xcel Energy Center from ice arena to state-of-the-art convention hall in preparation for Senator John McCain’s acceptance speech.

Traveling to Minnesota

An article in the July-August edition of AAA Magazine highlights the 2008 Republican National Convention and the many people who will travel to Minneapolis-Saint Paul this September. "Some 45,000 delegates, family members, and gadflies - and 15,000 journalists and bloggers" will converge on the Xcel Energy Center and the surrounding area.

During their time in Minnesota, convention visitors will not only witness Sen. John McCain accepting the Republican Party nomination for president, but they will also take in the sights, sounds, tastes and attractions of these two magnificent cities.

Remembering Reagan in 1980

In 1980 many things were different - including the timing of political conventions.

Today marks 28 years since Ronald Reagan stepped to the podium at the Republican National Convention in Detroit, Michigan to accept the Republican Party nomination for president. On July 17, 1980, Reagan delivered a speech that officially launched his general election campaign and landed him in the White House.

In 50 days, Senator John McCain will step to the podium at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, MN and accept the Republican Party nomination. Stay tuned to the Grand Ol' Blog to follow the action.

Meeting Governor Pawlenty

Today the interns of the 2008 GOP Convention started their morning with a trip to the Minnesota State Capitol complex in Saint Paul (a stone’s throw from convention headquarters) to meet with Governor Pawlenty and tour the capitol building.

Governor Tim Pawlenty welcomed the interns to the "best state in the country." After answering several questions from the interns the governor took a moment to pose for individual pictures.

Following their time with Governor Pawlenty, the interns toured the Minnesota State Capitol building designed by Cass Gilbert who, incidentally, was the original architect of the United States Supreme Court building.

Convention Staff on Ice

Supporters of the Minnesota Wild are called the "Team of 18,000," and readers of the Grand Ol’ Blog know that we count ourselves among them.

So on Sunday, we received a treat as convention staff got the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to skate on the hallowed ice of the Xcel Energy Center.

Just 50 days before the start of the 2008 Republican National Convention, the Xcel Energy Center staff gave us two hours to skate and play hockey on the Wild’s home ice.

For some of us, our time on the ice produced some scrapes, bruises and many sore bodies, but it was an experience we’ll never forget.

Today, the ice is being removed from the arena as part of preparations for convention construction of the site beginning in seven days on July 21st. Keep an eye on the Grand Ol’ Blog for pictures and video of the Xcel Energy Center takeover and convention hall build out.

American Neighbor YouTube Contest Winner!

Last Friday voting concluded on the five finalists of the American Neighbor YouTube Contest. Many across the nation took to heart the call of Sen. John McCain to "serve a cause greater than one's own self-interest," and shared with us their video stories of American Neighbors making a difference in their communities for the chance to attend the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Today, we are announcing the winner right here on the Grand Ol’ Blog...(drum roll please)...

Congratulations to John Merguerian from Van Nuys, CA whose video of Jason Gilde was chosen the best example of being a good American Neighbor. Both John and Jason will be invited to attend the 2008 Republican National Convention, and John's video will be shown during the convention's official proceedings.

Planning a convention and giving back

An article published yesterday on News Blaze highlights the 2008 Republican National Convention’s American Neighbor Volunteer Program and how convention staff are participating in community service projects in the Minneapolis - St. Paul area.

Close to 1,000 hours have been logged by convention staff volunteering at various locations and events such as the 14th annual Minneapolis Earth Day Watershed Cleanup to commemorate Earth Day 2008, The Salvation Army Toy Shop in December, the MN Special Olympics and other weekly service projects.

This week the 2008 GOP Convention interns spent the day helping out at Second Harvest Heartland in Saint Paul. To see an album of their service click here.

Republicans Unveil the 24/7 Town Hall Meeting to Create ‘Forward-looking’ Platform

Imagine a 24/7 town hall, where every American can offer up their opinion on the issues of the day.

Now we have it.

The Republican National Committee today unveiled a new Web site, www.GOPPlatform2008.com, which will give Americans an interactive opportunity to share their thoughts, and even submit videos, as the Republican Party develops its platform inadvance of 2008 Republican National Convention.

Congressman Kevin McCarthy (CA-22), Chairman of the 2008 Republican Platform Committee, explained why the RNC is reaching out to Americans over the Internet:

"We are seeking the most input through this historic opportunity to use a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week Internet town hall. We know Washington is not a place for solutions, so we are reaching out across the nation to create a forward-looking platform rooted in our core values with solutions that create prosperity today, and for the next generation."

Senator McCain rallies MN Volunteers and looks towards 2008 GOP Convention

Senator John McCain and his wife Cindy McCain were in town for a brief stop yesterday at his regional campaign headquarters in St. Paul to thank volunteers for their hard work.

"We're going to win this state because of your efforts and we can lose because of your lack of efforts. Let's have some straight talk," Senator McCain said.

The couple also spoke about the upcoming 2008 Republican National Convention that will bring them back to MN in less than 52 days. Bill Salisbury of the Pioneer Press reports:

Cindy McCain told the crowd she's excited the Republican National Convention will be in Minnesota Sept. 1-4.

"I feel like this is nearly a second home," she said. "I can't tell you how many summers I've been here with my children enjoying hockey camp, horse camp, language camp, you-name-it camp ..."

Sen. McCain echoed her sentiments about the convention.

"I think we can showcase our party, our vision for the future and our leadership of this nation," he said. "So I'm very proud and grateful to have the opportunity to accept the nomination of the party of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan in the Twin Cities and the state of Minnesota."

Declaration on Wheels?

That’s right. During the week of the 2008 Republican National Convention, one of the 25 remaining copies of the Declaration of Independence will be on display at the St. Paul City Hall/Ramsey County Courthouse building.

The document, "printed on July 4, 1776, when the Continental Congress declared the colonies' break from England," is one of "about 200 copies which were printed the night of the historic vote and the following morning," according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

The document will be displayed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 2-4 in the St. Paul City Hall/Ramsey County Courthouse, 15 W. Kellogg Blvd.

Lunchtime Chats are Back this Friday!

After a week hiatus in honor of Independence Day, the weekly Lunchtime Chats return this Friday at 12 p.m. CST.

Tune in to chat with Matt Burns, Director of Communications for the 2008 Republican National Convention, to get updated on the past two weeks of convention preparations and ask him questions LIVE during the chat or beforehand by emailing chats@gopconvention2008.com.

Tuesday’s edition of the Minnesota Pioneer Press recapped the first lunchtime chat which can be watched in its entirety here. The Press quipped, "Visitors to the Republican National Convention's Web site probably aren't expecting to see a GOP staffer munching on a jumbo meatball sandwich while joking with fellow party members..."

While we can’t promise another meatball sandwich all questions are fair game. So clear your schedule and grab a sandwich. We’ll see you Friday.

Minneapolis Saint Paul to kickoff Convention with 24 Hr Arts Celebration

“Minneapolis Saint Paul’s highly acclaimed arts community will take center stage on the weekend leading up to the Republican National Convention” according to a press release announcing “spark24” which plans to deliver “24 hours of non-stop unexpected performances and entertainment through downtown Minneapolis.”

The free entertainment marathon is scheduled to last from 8 p.m. Saturday, August 30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 31, just in time for the first day of the 2008 Republican National Convention on September 1.

Minneapolis Saint Paul is home to 75 professional theaters boasting more theater seats per capita than any other U.S. city but New York. Several theaters, including the Guthrie Theater (a convention venue ), are recent Tony Award winners. “Spark24” will showcase the “award winning Minneapolis Saint Paul arts scene to a global audience.”
